Help! I Can’t Sleep At Night.

Foreclosure demands your full attention. If there was ever a time you needed to focus and think clearly now is it.   You want to get a good night’s sleep and wake up refreshed each day to apply yourself to the task at hand.  Now is not the time to be distracted by worry, fatigue or drowsiness.

So here are several suggestions that may help you sleep better:
*  Exercise
*  Practice breathing exercises
*  Read
*  Turn worry into work
*  Drink a glass of red wine before bed
*  Have some good sex
*  Try to isolate the real problem
*  Take Ibuprofen
*  Help someone else less fortunate than you
*  Talk to other people
*  See your doctor
*  Talk to your lender

Exercise right before your bedtime.  Run. Dance. Lift weights. Do push-ups.  Walk a mile. Do something!  If you engage in some sort of exhausting activity right before bedtime your body will welcome rest.

Practice breathing exercises.  Your thoughts are more fluid when you relax. And you need to figure things out. So consider sitting in a comfortable chair closing your eyes and imagining you are in a very wonderful place. Now gently breath. This sounds silly but it can help you relax.

Read. Educate and prepare yourself for the challenge of the foreclosure process.  You do have options. Find out what they are.

Turn worry into work.  Decide what you are going to do.  Make a plan A, a plan B and even a plan C.  If your first plan does not work then what are you going to do?  If your second plan does not work then what? Nice to know you have a plan C if you need it.

Drink a glass of red wine before going to bed.  Relax and help your heart too.  Which segues into my next point.

Have some good sex.  A glass of wine and good sex too. Doesn’t get much better than that. Foreclosure is not the end of the world.  So have a toast by candlelight.

Try to isolate the real problem. Stress feeds on uncertainty.  So try to starve it.  By understanding what you want to do and where you are in the foreclosure process this may give you more confidence in your ability to solve your problem and thus allow you to sleep better.

Take ibuprofen.  I practice yoga and a former girlfriend of mine turned me on to the benefits of 2-4 ibuprofen as a muscle relaxer.  Anything that relaxes your muscles forces you to relax and so you sleep better.

Help someone else less fortunate than you.  When we suffer we often isolate ourselves and so it becomes easy to feel we are the only people suffering.  Open your eyes look around you and you may be surprised at what you see. And it was always there and will continue to be, long after you are back on the road to success again.

Talk to others.  Speak to family and friends and business associates.  “Who knows”?  You may be closer to solving your problem than you think?  Others just may share some information with you that helps you to relax and focus.

See your doctor.  Obviously your doctor may be able to recommend a solution. Whether psychologist or physician, give them an apple.

Talk to your lender.  Maybe your problem has a simple solution. Most people in foreclosure never speak to their lender.  You will want to be careful and prepared here though, because providing your lender with the wrong information can weaken your negotiating position.

In summary, don’t let the thought of foreclosure keep you awake at night. It makes it more difficult for you to think, focus and concentrate.  It makes it more difficult for you to work at your job.  Come up with a solid plan, read, exercise,drink a glass of wine and have some good sex too.  That should help you sleep better.
